Create a fully CG animated brown bear, integrating the creature into live action back plates for an online video promoting Samsung’s Ecobubble washing machines.

When The Viral Factory were approached by Samsung to create an online video to promote its range of Ecobubble washing machines, the creative agency wanted to tell a product story that entertains the audience. The team at The Viral Factory enlisted the help of Jellyfish Pictures to bring this story to life.

The viral video was shot on location over a period of three days in snowy Manning Park, British Columbia, Canada, with Jellyfish Pictures supervising on-set. Working with Barney, a Canadian Brown Bear, an actor in a 3D tracker suit and a spheron camera, our supervisor collected data on set to send back to our team in the much warmer climate of our Margaret Street studio. Using the information gathered from the 3D tracker suit, our team were able to completely replicate the real life Barney into CG Barney, seamlessly integrating him into the live action backplates thanks to environment reference images gathered by the spheron camera.

Since the launch of the viral video, Barney and the Samsung Ecobubble have racked up over 17 million views on YouTube. Watch the video in full below.
