A visually rich and conceptually dark short film including the central character Dr. Easy, a CGI robot who feels totally real and gives a convincing performance as a medically trained cyborg.
The film has been written and directed by acclaimed music video directors Jason Groves, Chris Harding, and Richard Kenworthy collectively known as Shynola. Dr. Easy was their first short film and was released online a day after its world premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival. Shynola has previously created films for recognised bands such as Radiohead, Coldplay, Beck, Blur and Queens of the Stone Age.
Dr. Easy acts as the prologue for a feature film that Shynola hope to make as part of the adaption of Red Men, a dystopian novel by Matthew De Abaitua. Dr. Easy the robot is built to inspire trust and reassurance, however, when sent to help a man, the robot shows his true droid identity as the out of control man’s human emotions surpasses logic and rationality of a machine. The powerful short film emphasises the differences between man and machine, no matter the sophistication of the machine.
All the visual effects were created by Jellyfish including the central character Dr. Easy, a CGI robot who feels totally real and gives a convincing performance as a medically trained cyborg, seamlessly integrated into the gritty world of a derelict East London flat.
