Whilst we can’t wait to see our industry friends in person soon, shows like FMX and SIGGRAPH have been making great strides in virtual conferences. Taking place from 4thto 6th May, FMX’s 2021 line up boasted the best and brightest in the animation, effects, games and immersive media… and we’re not just saying that because two of our shining stars were part of the roster of speakers.
A regular face on the FMX circuit, Jellyfish Pictures’ virtual and cloud genius, CTO, Jeremy Smith, spoke to the audience on Jellyfish’s global remote working set up. Taking our established virtual physical studios to the next level, Jeremy shared that, powered by Teradici Cloud Access Software, Microsoft Azure and pixitmedia, we now have access to the best talent around the world, with no compromise to security or productivity. Citing this as the future of our industry, Jeremy’s passion and belief for this way of working is evident in every word he presents, and filtered down to the audience.
Elsewhere Lead Compositor, Dustin Henning gave audiences an in depth look at the work of the compositing department on DreamWorks Animation’s Annie-award-winning ‘How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming’ as part of The Foundry series. Dustin highlighted the differences between VFX and feature animation as well as providing tutorials on key scenes from the show, delving into the creative solutions employed to create efficient workflows by harnessing the power of Nuke.
Both presentations were followed by a live Q&A, with listeners at the ready with burning questions to be answered.
