Jellyfish started as a two-man band back in 2001 and since then we have grown into one of the most respected visual effects and animation studios in the world. We are now a multi-award-winning animation production company employing over 150 artists across three London studios and are as dedicated as ever to creating stunning moving pictures.
Whether we’re working on feature films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or animated series like Dennis and Gnasher, Jellyfish offer an unrivalled service that blends creativity, craft and capacity.
Over the last 15 years we have built a brilliant creative team, an expert production service and a pioneering technical pipeline. We have won a string of EMMY, BAFTA and VES awards for our work. Our unique technical achievements in cloud technology over the last three years have allowed us to collaborate with the best artists wherever they may be as well as allowing us to set up “virtual” offices in an instant as we have recently done at The Oval in South London.
Whether working on blockbusters like Rogue One, A Star Wars Story and Kingsman: The Secret Service or smaller budget features like Paddy Considine’s Journeyman and Peter Strickland’s Duke of Burgundy, the creative vision and technical ability of our VFX team always produces spectacular results. We also provide post visualisation services to larger features. This process gives film makers an early view of how their story and visual direction is working before committing to full VFX production. Our post-viz team travel light so they can move into edit facilities or production offices, allowing for close and efficient collaboration with a director. The team recently collaborated with Gareth Edwards on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, working on over half the shots in the film.
Our TV visual-effects team are world-class and their BAFTA, EMMY and VES awards speak for themselves. We have worked in TV visual effects for over fifteen years, whether on TV dramas like Outlander and Black Mirror, or documentaries like Planet Dinosaur and Inside the Human Body, their work has won all the plaudits and awards. Their repertoire includes CG creatures, virtual humans, simulations, set extensions, blood, body work, special effects and much more! We also have a number of in-house supervisors who break down scripts, plan VFX shoots and methodology, attend set and deliver the final work. In 2015 we were named as one of the top 25 global VFX companies to watch by Animation Magazine.
We have a long history of producing stunning creature and character animation, so in 2014 we decided to set up Jellyfish Animation, a studio dedicated to nothing else! Our first commission was a 52 episode series called Floogals, which topped the ratings for NBC Sprout. That success led on to two more series of the same size: Bitz and Bob for Cbeebies/Fremantle and Dennis and Gnasher for Beano Studios /CBBC, which are underway in our Brixton and Oval studios. We are also developing our own animated properties, some of which are already in early stages of development and production.
We have a talented and versatile team of motion designers whose work blends graphic design, 2D animation, traditional illustration, live action and 3D CGI. The team works across an array of projects, everything from title sequences and explanatory graphics through to animated shorts and commercial campaigns. Clients are keen to collaborate with our team who can offer their projects a distinct and imaginative visual direction. This expert touch recently led to an EMMY award for their work on the PBS series Your Inner Fish.
Jellyfish isn’t just another VFX and animation studio for hire, we pride ourselves on offering a huge amount to the visual direction of the projects we work on. Storyboarding, concept art, character design, pre-viz, graphic design – we cover every aspect of visual development. Our art department has come up with stunning work across a huge variety of styles and projects. Be it world-building for CG animated shows like Dennis and Gnasher or designing complex VFX for live action shows like Wolfblood, Inside The Human Body or the EMMY winning Your Inner Fish, our team plays a vital role in defining the look of a project.
